Camerawork:Bourne Supremacy

  • Scene starts with close up shots of both the interviewer and the man being interviewed which creates suspense and intimacy, fitting with a small interviewing room
  • Over the shoulder angle is used to create the fly on the wall effect where you feel like you are in the room watching the scene, which builds the tension and makes the scene feel very intimate
  • The scenes are open framed and bit shakey which gives a nervous feel to the scene and suspense.(fitting with being interrogated)  Again fits with the idea of being the fly on the wall
  • The weighting of the frame is mainly on Matt damon, and this focusses us on him ,making his movements more obvious and dramatic
  • There are quick cuts to each shot which fits with the quick speed of the scene.

Camerawork:Kidaulthood

  • The scene starts with a long shot that pans around the school ground which introduces the location.
  • There are quick shots to an extreme close up of someone working with a drill, which is mysterious as it is so close up, so it is unclear whats happening.
  • Mid shots are used a lot in the playground to establish different groups which gives you just enough focus on the people, that you can also see others around the.
  • The scene in the playground is an open frame with focussed depth of field, again to show different groups.
  • Open frame fits with the hecticness of the playground as it makes the scene feel more casual.
  • Point of view shots are used to make the viewer feel as if they are standing in the playground watching.

Camerawork:The disappearance of Alice Creed

At the beginning of clip, Alice is mainly on the left side of the camera, and this weighting of the shot is used to focus the viewer on Alice.  A close up shot is used which again focusses your eyes on her and makes you feel more for her.  Then in the next shot, the over the shoulder angle is used, when the camera shows the man, so this allows Alice to still remain in the shot, making the scene feel more intimate.  Then when there is a tense scene, the depth of field of the shot switches between Alice's face and the gun, which creates suspense as these are the main things in the shot at this moment.  The frames in this scene are closed, which make each movement much more noticeable and makes the fast movements easier to watch.  When alice is about to hit the kidnapper, a tilt axis movement is used, which raises the suspense as you're waiting to see his face and as soon as the camera reaches his face, she hits him.

What is video on demand?

I looked at BBC iPlayer first as an example of VOD.  On the website you are able to watch TV and radio programmes aired on the BBC in the last week.  You need internet to stream them but you are also able to download them if you don't have internet.  There is also a small amount of films and music videos normally from 'Live lounge ' sessions, BBC is known for doing.  iPlayer and other website like this are useful as you don't need to watch it on pirate websites that could damage your phone or laptop, and you don't have to download shows that take up a lot of storage.  Other examples of VOD are itv player, 40d and Demand 5.  These are good examples of convergence as on your phone you're able to watch tv shows, films, listen to radio shows and music.

Convergence & Synergy

I decided to look at the popular film 'Skyfall' to see how many examples i can see of convergence used in the website.  Just at a glance i immediately saw pictures you can get from the film, which could be used for posters or wallpaper for you phone or computer.  There are also links to popular social media sites like Facebook and Twitter aswell as Google and iTunes where you can easily access songs in the film.  On the website you are also able to watch behind the scene clips and clippers from the film.  I also noticed many examples of synergy on the website such as cinema ticket advertisements and there is even a whole page dedicated to the partner companies involved in Skyfall.  I then looked at the sequel to Skyfall, Spectres website to see if similar aspects are available on the website and i found many examples of convergence.  firstly at the top of the page there are links to twitter, Facebook, youtube, google and Instagram.  I also noticed pictures, videos and music.  There is also artwork which is an example of synergy, and also there were many advertisements for other products like cars used in the films and advertisements for available clothes and gimics.  As a contrast, i decided to look at a completely different genre of films website.  So i looked at the website for 'Despicable Me 2' to see if there were similar aspects.  I found many examples of convergence, like before, of links towards the trailer, Facebook, twitter and instagram.  There were more examples of convergence than the websites before as there were many more links for websites including Pinit, youtube, google and iTunes.  But there didn't seem to be many examples of synergy and the website felt quite bare with not many links to other companies which i found suprising as Despicable Me has such a big franchise for the minions that appear in the film, which meant there was definitely room for advertisement of at least them.

Who owns the film industry?

When researching the different film companies and who owns them, one i immediately recognised was 'The Walt Disney Company' who own Buena Vista and Walt Disney Studios.  They are well known for producing films such as 'Cinderella' and 'Lilo and Stitch' and the companies become such a large corporation that it has a 'DisneyWorld' and many 'Disney' stores.  The 8 corporations, that are called the 'Big Eight', own whats called the 'Big Ten' which are the ten big hollywood studios.  Aswell as Walt Disney company this consists of 'News Corporation' who owns the well known '20th Century Fox' well known for making the famous series 'The Simpsons'. And,
  • Viacomn who own paramount picture and produce films classics such as Mission impossible and Indiana jones
  • Sony who own Sony Pictures and is known for Smurf and Superman
  • Time Warner who owns Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema and makes films like Harry potter and Dark knight rises
  • NBc Universal who own Universal Studios known for jaws and jurassic park
  • MGM(metro-goldwyn mayer) known for making the Hobbit and Skyfall

My Favourite Media

There are many different types of media from films to Facebook and all i use in different amounts.  The predominant use of media i use is social media like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter and Whatsapp.  I check these everyday and use them a lot of the time.  I think my favourite are Instagram and Facebook as with Facebook i can easily contact friends anywhere and with Instagram you can share pictures and see pictures from around the world.

I also regularly watch TV and sometimes watch films, but i like series such as Made In Chelsea and  The Only Way is Essex as they're not that long so easy to fit into the day, and the episodes always end with a cliffhanger so i find them very exciting to watch.  So i guess my favourite genre of television is reality as i also like the aspect that it is believable and in most cases is real.  I don't like shows such as 'Downton Abbey' and gameshows like 'Eggheads' as theres no excitement and i find them very dull to watch.  Probably mu favourite show is 'Friends' as I've watched it since i was young and it again is a easy watch and is very funny

The films i usually like are either cliche cheesy films or thrillers which are at opposite ends of the spectrum.  I like cheesy films such as a film i watched recently and enjoyed very much ; 'We're the Millers' as its an easy watch and you can relax watching it.  Whereas with thrillers you need to usually keep up with the plot.  Off the top of my head, definitely my favourite thriller are all the Taken films (one, two and three) as they're really gripping and there are lots of twists in each plot.   The genre of film i don't like is Sci-fi and historic as i don't find them easy to watch and most of the films of this genre i find very dull and the plot, uninteresting.
