Refining the film and final things needing doing

Most of the editing is done, however we were still missing a scene where Conor gets out the car, but Evies filming that and will be ready by the start of the week.  We've got someone to do the sound fro the film but i think that is still a work in progress.  Ive taken the lead on doing  the design, and I'm ready to do the ident and we've refined the design of it, but its just a matter of figuring out how to do it on the computer.  I think i know which software to use but haven't tried it out yet, but that wont take too long.  Once we've got all the aspects missing from the film, onto final cut i dont think it will take much time to finally finish it all

Actress dropping out

Lily, our main girl actress is now not available to film anymore for our next shots so we had to find a new one fast, which meant we had to refilm all the scenes with the girl in.  This was a scary prospect but the next day we had our new actress Maddie and did started filming.  As we were really happy with our last footage, we tried to copy the angles and shots as much as we could.  Sadly, we felt some of the shots weren't as nice as the ones with Lily and we think it might've been because it wasn't as sunny so the lighting wasn't as good.  We put the footage onto final cut and starting editing.  We've put most of the sound in, and i found putting the breaths in with her running in the forest very tricky but i had to adjust the volume of each breath to where Maddie was in the shot.  So if Maddie was in the distance i realised i had to make the breaths much quite than when its a point of view shot.  So far its all going well

Rough Cut of Film

This is the rough cut of our film so far.  Half of it has not been dubbed so some of the sound levels won't be right, and also i added some titles, but just to use as notes for things that need to be added.  When editing and assembling the film ,we also decided to add in other shots we had and go against the storyboard.  I was happy we had the flexibility and choice to choose which angle we want the shot to be at.  This also meant that for example when putting in the shot of the Conor reacting to a loud noise, we could choose which reaction we preferred as some were delayed and some looked bait rushed and forced.  We were also really happy with the lighting and were planning to film the rest this weekend but… the girl actress lily couldn't film the rest of the scenes...

Editing - Day 1

We imported all our film onto final cut pro, aswell as all our sound recordings.  We started by doing a rough cut of the clips and putting all the clips in order.  Then we had to make sure the continuity of the clips worked, such as when opening a door and coming through the other side so it doesn't look delayed or to fast.  We then started editing in more detail with the clips we got.   I found this tricky at times because we were missing some scenes so it was hard to know where to place clips and how long they should be there for.  I then started dubbing over the sounds and found that using the clapper at the start made it easier to synchronise the sounds, so we will definitely do this next time we film.

Planning ahead

When we next film, we will definitely need to remember the storyboard, and just swiftly film the scenes we were missing so that we can start peopwely filming.  I also wort notes hen watching the footage we had already done and there were a few small pointers that could be redone, when we film again.  Then when we get round to editing, we need to dub in the rest of the clips an edit so they are continuous.  We then really need to focus on sound as we haven't approached that aspect yet. We are going to ask a friend who's into music to do it and I'm slightly skeptical as to whether they will capture what we want but it should be fine as our music we want isn't too complex.  We also need to do the ident and need to figure out how to draw a doodle and get it so it is drawing it on the screen. We might just do this on paint and do a screenshot recording, or use a digital sketchpad but I'm unsure whether we will have access to a digital sketchpad so we really need to start thinking about this now
